Ryan and Pua, June 22, 2013

The two of them (and I am generously including our son here) did a fantastic job of planning their wedding day.

Things started early in the day for us with decorating with flowers, picking up rides and other stuff to get ready.

It was a fast-paced day. Soon it was time for final preparations.

And then before you knew it...

We had a daughter!

Mendoza's (Re)Tie the Knot!

Don and Cora renewed their vows yesterday at a beach park. Their daughter, Marisa, presided. It was a very touching event.
They are terrific people and they deserve all the best in the next phase of their lives.

My hat

Juliet had one of our Farrington classmates embroider this hat for me and we picked it up tonight.

Mahalo to Clayton Sorayama for designing and embroidering the design for me.

I'll be sporting it at the UH football games next season (or maybe sooner!).

It's great!

Kancel Karaoke

I tried to get a karaoke night together but it didn't work out. We'll probably just wait until the 19th.

The UH baseball team clinched a series win earlier today. Hopefully, they are building some momentum. I'm not sure if it will matter much for this season but it certainly couldn't hurt to carry some of it into next season.

Steady Drip, Drip, Drip

The Great Nickname Debate continues as the off season rolls on. Positions are staked out and stated and restated ad nauseum.

It's a pretty good time for a hiatus...the repetitive arguments will continue to drive up the page views and comment count for Stephen's blog regardless of my involvement or lack thereof.

He rarely posts throwaway information so today's lead topic about filling GA positions seems to be kind of curious in its "Out-of-the-blue"-ness. I wonder what the behind-the -scenes goings-on are?

I wonder how many hyphenated-comments I can include in this post?

Al has managed to put together a coffee drive for the UHAD coaches. It's a nice way to involve fans and supporters. Coach Chow says although he does not drink coffee (he's Mormon), it does make a difference in Coaches' morale. Knowing that, as a relatively well-compensated (another hyphen) department head wouldn't it behoove him to make a contribution to his staff by supplying the coffee? Just asking.

I have decided to show up for karaoke tomorrow night after posting on FB a couple of days ago. A lot of Tsaikos are planning to be at RWSS for Softball Senior Night but a few have responded that they would show up at Krazy Karaoke. We'll all have fun no matter where we are...it's the Tsaiko-way!

AD Faux Pas?

The UH Letterwinners' Club letter to Ben Jay regarding the Warrior name change certainly seems to fall far short of a ringing endorsement of the new AD's first major decision.

Balancing Executive Decisiveness and Inclusiveness is definitely not a simple thing and a slip-up, especially one so early in his tenure, could be very damaging. Perhaps it may not be too late to retract his decision in the face of public outcry on such an emotionally-charged issue.

Better to seek out low-lying fruit (or high placed light bulbs) and look to string together some popular decisions that more people would support before tackling something that can affect so broad an array of stakeholders. After all, one axiom in any sport is to always try to get that "Mo" guy on your side!

Build some momentum UHAD Jay.

Go Warriors!

Let's go Bows!

Duck Dynasty and a Cup 'o Joe

It seems that the UHAD has lost a source of a vital contribution...free coffee for the Coaches' offices.

Up until last month I was buying coffee at work from our coffee shop, albeit at essentially a subsidized cost that covered the cost of the actual coffee. Many businesses maintain a kitty from their employees to purchase coffee supplies and, in some cases, snack items. If you participate, pour yourself a cup and grab a donut (or a Twinkie or whatever everyone decides to buy.)

It doesn't seem unreasonable that the coaches and staff would be expected to chip in for their own coffee.

Stephen has another contest for Duck Commander shades. Cool prize but I'm not sure about the relavance to Warrior football.

Regarding the karaoke for this Saturday, I decided against doing anything. It would have been nice to see everyone but the time available to set things up is short.

Summertime, Summertime,Sumsum Summertime!

I'll be taking a break from posting comments on The Warrior Beat until we get closer to the start of Fall Camp in Manoa.

I'll publish my thoughts about the day's revelations here and probably talk about some other stuff as well. This will be my first real attempt at a daily blog posting; we'll see how it goes.

Last night, Stephen posted on FaceBook that the Karaoke Kall is going to be postponed because he will be attending a wedding reception on the North Shore that evening. I am considering making a reservation and inviting a few Tsaikos anyway. It'll be good to see them again...it's been awhile.

Aloha Hokulani

We let Hoku go to Heaven yesterday. She is a good dog and a gentle soul and deserved to be free of the limitations that seventeen years of giving love and devotion to our family built up.

She left the way she lived; very patiently and without complaint. In the end I believe all of us felt great relief knowing that she woke up in a place where she can romp freely like the puppy that she never ended being.

We'll always love and remember you, Hoku.

Aloha.

"Soul" food. The chicken was great but the cubed pork was real ono and the cornbread was, too.

Jerry Boster's retirement. Food by Sean Priester of Soul cafe. I noticed the lard going into the deep fryer earlier. Buttermilk Fried Chicken!
